Supply List

✏️Supply List📏

Below you will find three lists: Provided Supplies, Recommended Supplies, and Optional Supplies. The Provided Supplies are materials/supplies DPS will provide to students. The Recommended Supplies are materials/supplies that I personally recommend for students to have - it will make their 5th grade experience much more organized! Finally, the Optional Supplies are materials/supplies I find that students from past years have found very reliable and useful throughout the year.

Provided Supplies:

  • iReady Math Workbook and Math Notes
  • Benchmark Magazines
  • 1 Composition Notebook
  • Personal Pencil Box
  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Highlighters
  • Erasers
  • A whiteboard and whiteboard marker

Something my students learn about me right away is that I am extremely particular and organized - it's a blessing and a curse. With that being said, I provide specific colors of the notebooks and folders I recommend my students have; there is a reason for this and it benefits everyone in the long-run. As well as that, I also recommend a specific brand because those are the ones I personally use and love, and I know they work really well, but you do not need to purchase that specific brand! Also, please only purchase college-ruled paper and notebooks - no more wide-ruled, please! Students will not need the recommended supplies listed below on the first day of school! We will go over the supplies list as a class to ensure that all students understand exactly what supplies they should bring to school. Please ensure all supplies are brought to the classroom on, or before, Monday, August 21st. If purchasing the supplies I recommend is a financial burden for you, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me so I may help resolve the issue.

Recommended Supplies:

  • Backpack
  • 2023-2024 Planner (to record homework, due dates, upcoming events, etc.)
  • Extra college-ruled Paper and/or Graph Paper
  • 1 Green college-ruled Spiral Notebook (Mead: Five Star Brand, single-subject)
  • 1 Red college-ruled Spiral Notebook (Mead: Five Star Brand, single-subject)
  • 1 Blue college-ruled Spiral Notebook (Mead: Five Star Brand, single-subject)
  • 3 Pocket Folders (1 Green, 1 Red, 1 Blue)
  • 1 Homework Folder (may be any color/design of the student's choosing)
  • Whiteboard Eraser (may use an old sock or rag, doesn't need to be fancy)
  • Extra Thin/Fine-Tip Whiteboard markers (any colors)
  • Scissors
  • Glue Sticks (will be needed throughout the year)

As a reminder, the following list of materials/supplies is strictly optional. Students can be very successful in the 5th grade without these items, however, students from the past years have found them very reliable and useful throughout the year.

Optional Supplies:

  • Wireless mouse
  • Flair pens (work best when annotating and don't bleed)
  • Wired Earbuds/Headphones
  • Personal Pencil Sharpener (non-electric)
  • 12-inch Ruler
  • Colored Pencils or Crayons

*** If your child has not memorized his/her math facts, please have and make continual use of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division flashcards at home. You can usually purchase them at the 99 Cent Store or in Target's $1 section. You can even make your own flashcards by printing free templates you find online; or make them on index cards. Flashcards are great to have in the car for drives around town and while waiting in lines or waiting for appointments. This is an excellent way for students to have greater success when learning the more difficult 5th-grade math standards.
