Intro to Studio Art

Intro to Studio Art is a year-long beginning art class for students of all abilities. Students taking art as an elective will be introduced to a variety of mediums such as ceramics, linoleum block printing, screen printing, acrylic painting, watercolor, drawing, metal stamping, animation, bookbinding, and papermaking. Students will be focusing on the elements of art and principles of design as well as the California Art Standards. Students will be looking at both classical artists when studying traditional art movements, as well as a looking at more contemporary movements.  Throughout the year students will be collaborating, researching, and problem-solving as they create meaningful works of art. Students will gain skills in risk-taking as they try out new techniques and approach things with new perspectives. Through peer critiques and journaling, students will learn the art of how to reflect, respond, analyze and interpret their artwork and the work of their peers. Students will grow and become successful in gaining skills as artists.
