Welcome to 6th grade Integrated Science. As we approach this year together, here is a brief overview of how our academic year will be approached.

The district directed open source curriculum is OpenSciEd.  Students will be using a digital science notebook that is  teacher created that correlates with the curriculum.  There is no textbook given to students and will all be phenomena based. 

I will be implementing the Next Generation Science Standards . The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) will transform teaching and learning in the classroom. They (NGSS) will dramatically change how students experience science by shifting the focus from the memorization of facts to greater student engagement in the processes of science. The NGSS emphasizes learning in three dimensions: the Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas. In addition, there are seven Conceptual Shifts, or Innovations, that have strong implications for teaching and learning. These shifts include the interconnected nature of science as practiced in the real world, the integration of science and engineering, the use of performance expectations, a focus on deeper understanding of content as well as application of content, and alignment to the Common Core State Standards. Your students will be asked to start thinking outside the box and applying their learning in many new ways. In 6th grade we will integrate all concepts of science including, Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science.
